Review of "What Its Want to Be a Dark-colored Girl"

Essay about Review of «What Its Like to Be a Dark-colored Girl»

The poem I selected was " What it's like to be a Black Girl (For those who don't know)”. This can be a poem written by Patricia Smith. The three elements of the poem i found to be engaging had been the sculpt, the content, as well as the language the fact that author uses. This composition struck several feelings in me. I really am taking a descriptive approach to my response.

Like a black woman I felt somewhat belittled by the develop that this publisher uses in this poem. The lady speaks regarding the idea of becoming a black lady as being someone who is constantly trying to become someone she is not. It made me feel as if her thoughts were that being a black lady was all about wanting to be a white lady. And I would not agree with that at all. The lady writes " it's shedding food colouring in your eyes to make all of them blue and suffering all their burn in silence. It's swallowing a bleached white mophead over the kinks of your locks and primping in front of magnifying mirrors that refuse your reflection” (Clugston). Personally i think like all girls aren't happy with their very own reflection at some point in time. Being unhappy about you hair, your weight, or your clothes is focused on being a girl. To seclude that feeling to just dark-colored girls can be reducing the character of dark-colored girls. The tone your woman takes is likewise negatively reflected when the girl speaks about black young ladies and males. Smith writes " really finally having a man touch base for you in that case caving in around his fingers” (Clugston). The language uses here when she says " finally” hits me. As if to say this at last a black girl finally " got a man” but goes to say that she quite simply sub concerns him. This paints the imaginative photo that black girls will be weak and needy. This may not be true!

The content that she speaks has some reality to it as well. The idea of a dark girls with mop brain for locks it's a good reflection of black ladies today. A lot of black women grow their looks with hair extensions or perhaps straighten their particular natural curly hair so that it goes. It no longer feel that its because we all...
