Abstract

300 words

The purpose of my personal extended dissertation is to compare and contrast certain aspects of literary type employed in two novels which are closely connected, Mrs Dalloway by Va Woolf plus the Hours by Michael Cunningham. The way these kinds of authors possess chosen to use various aspects of literary form will be discovered in order to observe how each author has characterized Mrs Dalloway. The exploration was performed through a close reading of each of the focus on texts, and through the appointment of extra sources, which includes texts which in turn discuss notions of literary form and sources which critique both these styles the works of fiction.

Through my personal background research when trying to decide on a topic to get my Prolonged Essay I discovered myself developing a strong appreciation for Va Woolf's works. I noticed that I was particularly interested in the way the girl was identified as making influential breakthroughs in the use of fictional form and decided i would enjoy the chance to explore this kind of in order to boost my own understanding, both of her work and of this facet of it. It had been my wish that my own investigation will highlight the aspect of fictional form and it is for that reason which i decided to check out Mrs Dalloway in conjunction with a novel which shares a solid link with it, Cunningham's The Several hours.

The exploration has found that through the utilisation of the overall structure of each novel, as well as the use of person techniques, such as the overall framework, the use of shifting perspective, the use of flashbacks and stream of consciousness producing, the character of Mrs Dalloway has been designed. Finally it can be concluded that the notion of " organic” kind is more crucial in the composing of Mrs Dalloway although elements of " conventional” type characterise the writing from the Hours.
